Backgammon
- an apron or plate of play, generally in the
shape of a case which one opens made up of two series of 12 drawn
arrows
- 15 pawns of each color, white and black.
- 1 pair of dice to be played.
- 1 die lapping machine called "videau" which posts numbers 2,
4, 8, 16, 32 and 64
The goal of the play is to make carry out with all its pawns the turn of the plate and leave them the first avan T your adversary. The two players carry out the turn of the plate in opposite direction. The strategy to be used is a mixture of blocking and attack which renvoit unfavourable pawns at the beginning. The throw of dice makes the theory of probability essential. The play of the settings and the biddings introduces an exceptional strategic reflexion into the games of chance and money of or the originality of the Backgammon. At the beginning the pawns are places as follows: Boxes 1 to 6 on each side are called "zone". The zone of each player has much importance when it is a question of giving from the struck pawns concerned or other with dimensions to leave the pawns and to gain. The die lapping machine will be placed between the two players, on the edge of the apron for example, posting value 64. Each one launches a die, most extremely can play the combination formed by the two dice. In the event of doubled bloom, one withdraws until obtaining a playable value. Displacement of the pawns
Each die can make it possible to move a pawn of a number of arrows equal to the number of points obtained. It is necessary so that displacement is possible that the box of arrival is not blocked, c-a-d does not contain at least two unfavourable pawns. If the box contains a simple pawn, also named "blot", one it "strikes" (see hereafter). In the event of double with the dice, the dice are played twice. For example in the event of double 5, the player must play four times 5. If several values of die are played on the same pawn, the intermediate boxes must not-be blocked to play 9, is 4 and 5, it is necessary that the 4e or the 5e box not-is blocked. A whole of boxes, consecutive arrows, blocked is called a "premium" NB: the "premium of 6" is particularly interesting because it blocks any pawn.
Strike of a pawnWhen one arrives on a box containing a pawn alone, one "strikes it". It is found then on the central bar on the side of the player owner of the pawn. It must then make the turn of the plate in entirety. One can strike more than one pawn by turn and a pawn can strike several others of them. The struck pawns will be piled up or aligned on the central bar.
Release of a pawnAs a long time as a player has at least a pawn on the bar, it cannot play its other pawns. To release its pawns, it must play a number of points enabling him to reach a not-blocked box of the unfavourable zone. 1 corresponds to the box in edge from the plate and 6 with nearest to the bar.
Exit of the pawnsOnce that all its pawns are present in their zone, one can start to leave them. The left pawns do not intervene any more in the play. If a pawn or several pawns "is struck", one is obliged to wait until they returned in their zone before being able to leave other pawns. For this one must make the number of exact points corresponding to the number of boxes to leave. There is a tolerance: if all the boxes larger or equal to the number of the die are empty one can leave a pawn the most distant arrow. For example if 4,5 and 6 are empty then one 5 makes it possible to leave a pawn arrow 3.
Constraints of playIf a player can play his two dice, it must do it. If it can play only one of them, it must play highest. If a player did not leave pawn whereas the other finishes it is "March" in French or "gammon" in English and X 2 additional is applied to the settings. The player is "backgammon" if it still has a pawn in the zone of the adversary and X 3 is then applied (rare situation).
